Masterarbeit, 2017, CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 AT Abstract Every time I see the moon, what is in my mind? I descry bright moonlight in front of my bed, I suspect it to be hoary frost on the floor, I watch the bright moon, as I tilt back my head, I yearn, while stooping, for my homeland more. At that time, many people say, the moon in foreign countries is rounder than that in China. I came to Europe for more than a decade, But I feel more and more regret that the full moon can not bring family members to get together. There is an old saying The big tree is as high as the sky, a lot of branches came from the same strain, Even that tree has a thousand feet high, But the leaves fall down also with a date Tired bird heads home, fish migration, That is, Jan Er's dream JAN ER S DREAM Short film (animation, smart phone recording, camera recording) It is an experimental documentary about me who born in China at the end of 80s. It is also a discussion about connection between spaces and memories. Most of our memories are connected with specific spaces. In this short film, my memories are interpreted as images and sounds. And they will as a line to connect with the specific spaces from my past. Dream A dream is an experience during sleep. It is a succession of images, ideas, emotions and sensations that usually occurs involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleeping. At the same time, a dream is also an intensive wishful thinking that our life affected. I build up a dream world by memories and spaces, I want to find out an answer as that I have been in Europe more than a decade, but I still want to go back to my homeland. How about that? What is the problem? Sense of belonging: Culture, customs, life style and habit. A childhood maze! Just like Most of my lovers who have made their choices, who feel that they just do not belong to here, and me neither. And this lost of belongingness become now a intensiv feeling of insecurity. I am making my decision now that I will go back to my homeland. So, that is my dream! About Color Why should I use black and white as the main color in this film? There is a reason that it's hardly to find any other colors in my own memories. Even there should be more colorful in my memories, I find them only on some specific things. About Format Why should I chose this format? There are two reasons why I chosed this format. Reason one: It is a tribute to the director Feng Xiao Gang and his film "I Am Not Madame Bovary". Reason two: It is because of the distinction between time, spaces and different memories. The circular format is for my childhood memories spending in my hometown. The square format is for memories of Europe during last fifteen years. The full HD format is for present. I use the images of railways and flight as the transition in the between. I want to show to the audience that I am on the road, and to tell the audience that I want to go back to my homeland! About Montage In fact, our memories are not arranged by time line. One day, I hearing a familiar melody, then a scene will appear in my mind. So my editting is based on the relevance of sounds, images or spaces. It is just like, when we try to remember something, we start it from a melody, a picture or a scene, and that reminds me on another melody, picture or scene.
